Brewed & Packaged on the Big Island! The intense Hawaiian Sun creates clouds on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, providing abundant rain. This pure rainwater, filtered by volcanic rock, is the foundation of Mehana Brewing Company. Island Inspired Craft Beer.
In the 1920’s this facility was the home of Hilo Soda Works where they made soda pop. One of the grandson’s of the original owners decided to try brewing beer in the early 1990′ s thus creating Mehana.
It became such a success that they needed to expand and began looking for investors. Hawaii Nui had recently purchased the old Keoki Brewery on Kaua’i. They merged with Mehana and moved all their brewing equipment from Kaua’i to this facility.
In 2009 the original owners of Mehana decided to retire and Hawaii Nui took over the brewery. But out of respect for the family we keep the Mehana name on the original recipes they created and the new recipes we make get the Hawaii Nui name.
Humpback Blue is so named because the original Mehana label it was packaged under was blue and when they created the new label they wanted a way for their customers to identify their favorite beer.
